Well, one of us got into them....I went 5 for 10 in 3 hrs., 3 LDR's & 2 at the boat. Note to self : bring the longer and bigger net for less lost fish, they go ape shit crazy near the yak  :smt044. The bite shut off about 10:30 am. I used the Fishseeker  & Pink lady divers to get down because I don't have a downrigger YET, and you tend to lose a few more fish with this setup. All fish were 13" to 14" for me. Time to go cook some fish....

Chris, come on over, Jeff ( codzilla ) and I were talking about hitting it again this weekend.

Mike, here is the setup that was hot for me on Sun., I normally put the snubber on the back of the diver but the snap swivel was too small, so I put it in front of the Sling Blade and it seemed to work fine.

Nice work Tim!  I look forward to fishing with you guys.  I'm putting Whiskeytown down for Sunday morning.

Where do you guys launch from?  Every time I drive 299 through Whiskeytown I see the signs saying "this is a fee area".  Where do I pay this fee?

Yes, only one of us got into them, and that wasn't me!!!! Every since I flipped my yak a few weeks ago, I have been skunked both trips!!!! I must have pissed off the fishing gods.
I hope I get my mojo back before Rockfish Wars !!!
I tried everything,  different baits, changed depth, finally I took Tim up on using what he caught all of his fish with, still a big fat skunk !!!
Hopefully next week ???
Tim did pick up some nice kokes, and so did most everyone out there !

Jeff, make sure you don't crack the Chelada until the first fish is in the boat, or an hour has gone by....otherwise you're doomed for skunking the day away.  :smt002
Chris, we launch at the Whiskey Creek launch, hang a right after crossing the 299 bridge.  I think the fee is $5 for the day, should be a pay station there at the ramp, by the crappers.  I always pick up a season pass, $25 and good for 12-months.

Right on, thanks for the intel Ben and Jeff.  Really looking forward to my first kayak adventure on Whiskeytown, and getting to target a relatively new fish (only done the koke thing once).  I always get all excited and go on a "research binge" when going after a new species, and I've found some really cool stuff with regards to kokanee fishing techniques.  Trolling is by far the most popular method, but there's also a lot of info out there on jigging and even mooching for kokanee.  I'll bring stuff to troll if need be, but I'm really hoping to get some fish on the almighty jig  :smt007.

WOW, thats a short line from the dodger to the lure...I usually fish them 12-18", maybe I need to get it shorter, especially now as its getting later in the year and they may be in pre-spawn mode.

Thats a real nice grade of kokes. A few years back we had limits that averaged 18" with the biggest 22". 2 years i a row! That was trolling with downriggers at 80 feet..In June or July.Whiskeytown is a great Kokanee lake. Go get em!

If you look closer you will see a loop in the leader, had to fit it in the picture. Short leaders for lures with no action ( as short as 8" to make the sling blade give it action. ) The smile blade on the lure I was using gives it action.
