Here's a really subjective opinion, (mine).

A few years ago I did allot of online research into Hg in fish and it's effects on humans.  Why, cause, I had grand kids on the way and felt that my opinions might now affect others (other than myself).  I've always had a pretty low key nonchalant opinion of how Hg would affect me, but wasn't so sure about developing fetuses and young children.

I didn't save the work but I'll tell you the conclusions I came up with. Again this is just my opinion.

No amount of Hg is OK for a developing fetus, it can inhibit brain development that is not reversible, this is true but to a lesser extent in young children.

In adults Hg is not as harmful and some of the effects are reversible but can be life altering if taken too far.

The article that Crash supplied is great.  It was similar data I found that actually changed my habits, I would occasinally eat leopard shark (properly handled is a great eating fish), but no more for me.  On the other hand seems many rockfishes and lings are generally low in Hg.

Bottom line is just be sensible and do believe the govt issued guidelines and info at least on this subject.

I eat just about any type of fish, and I would serve many fishes to my grandkids, but at the same time there just isn't a good reason to serve some High Hg fishes to pregnant women and young chldren when you weigh the risk vs benefit.
