Hi

Searched forum but could not find much on this area. I am down in Ventura area and want to fish some of the squid beds here. I am used to surf launches of 3-5 footers so that's doable just don't know where to launch from and conditions.

Any areas to launch from and close to fishing grounds? Anyone aware of squid boats out there? From the harbor seems they are all heading here as water is holding more squid.

Thanks

Will be trying that as well. Trying to get my first seabass and after 2 years I am making a strong effort to fish where the bait is. Seems all the squid boats are up north by Monterey or conception everytime I talk to the workers at the commercial landings. Squid has been mia for is down south (thanks El Niño).

Your post title says Pt. Conception, but it seems like you a are talking about Ventura?

There was a fantastic WSB bite near Gaviota last year I think it was..... (?)

Park at Gaviota State Beach and Paddle north off shore Hollister Ranch. Still miles away from Pt Conception, but at least in the general area.  The Ranch and Bixby Ranch north of that are all private property, so landing you technically shouldstay below the mean high tide line.

Thre's gotta be reports you can access to see where thewsb are gathering and biting. Good bite off of Malibu area and Secos last year as well, closer to Ventura in the other direction.

No I meant Point Conception further north of me. It's a new area for me and buddies which like a kid exploring a new park excites us a lot.

There was a hot bite off gaviota last year but seems like the bite has not started yet by there or it had been very hush hush so far. I live close to Malibu and it's dead for anything bigger than rockfish. After 3 months of rockfish wanted to try something different north of us.

Hoping things change later as water cools down during winter but for now trying to learn more about areas north of me.

Any members need info about Malibu feel free to contact me and will show you around. Thanks

I've had family between Ventura & Goleta for years.
The Arco island can be productive depending on the time of year.  halibut, sharks, barracuda, bonita. Of course skunks too :smt002.

Farther north,  halibut, calicos & bonita off Goleta beach.  There is a closed area north of the beach and on up the coast to Coal Oil Point at least.
The SB harbor area has some good halibut spots too.

I've never caught anything off Refugio, but see lots of kayakers there & in the kelp off El Capitan, though the stories I hear are that the place is pretty fished out.
Even farther north, Gaviota for all the usual suspects, including WSB and the occasional GWS. Just need to watch the wind there as Pt Conception gets gnarly.

There are group of guys on here "Jurassic sportfishing" that have posts from the Vandenberg and Jalama area. They catch some big lings and such.
