Apparently Orcas were seen hunting off Mendo yesterday. I went out diving yesterday and my wife called and told me not to go today because see saw the story on facebook.  Its just to fun out there to worry about every predator.

I just missed them by a couple of hours. Maybe remind the wifey that orcas get a bad rep because of the captive ones attacking trainers but wild orcas don't target humans. None-the-less, I wouldn't want to be in the middle of a pod.

Pretty sure they hunt in packs and don't want me.  Its the sharks that want a taste test that I am worried about.

I've had them come up to me off Albion and off Cape Mendocino.  There's no record of orcas ever attacking humans in the wild.  But they sure can scare the crap out of you when the big male comes up to you as a warning to stay away from his girls.  They look you right in the eye.

They've been hunting in Monterey Bay and just outside Morro Bay too. Lots of Orca activity lately!

My farmer Jon wetsuit is really tight at the moment, so having one of them come up to me if I were on the water would cause a really tight mess down south. :smt044

I've seen the Monterey Bay resident orcas a handful of times. They are much bigger in person (that's what she said!).

The thing that terrifies me is how smart they are. They work as a team and have huge amounts of power. Even if you could fend off one another would just get you from behind. Remind of that scene in Jurassic park with the raptors... Clever girl! :smt009
