MRI with gadolinium-based dye

Does anyone have any experience with MRIs using contrast dye? My brother might get one, and he's read about certain risks associated with the gadolinium-based dye.
Any thoughts?

My Dad had an MRI a few years ago using contrast dye but I'm sure of the type.  Days after the test he broke out in a rash head to toe because he was allergic to the dye. 

Not dangerous in his case but definetly worth asking about ahead of time.

I've worked around the MRI/CT scanners since 1998 and never had a serious (death) reaction at either of the sites I've worked at. We have a couple reactions like Dale's Dad each year and also vomiting might happen. With the better quality gad these days, these things don't seem to happen as often now as they did say 10 years ago.

Having said that, there's that one in a billion person that is deathly allergic to something and when they get it, their going to have serious problems. Just my two cents.

Yea they are starting to use dye along with MRI's now. Don't know why, except maybe to get a better image

My son had one in November, all good. 

I've had more than a dozen MRIs with the die, I'm not allergic so it doesn't bother me any. To me it does make it a little feel a little colder in the room while you're getting the MRI though. 

I've had several MRI's w/ contrast dye.  I haven't had any immediate allergic reactions - long term effects - unknown.

I was always instructed to drinks lots of water following the MRI to flush out your system.

That was the first time I truly understood what people meant when they say "You might feel flush." I never really got it until doing one of those MRIs w/the dye. Face felt all warm & tingly, kinda nausious, sorta dizzy...I felt a little "flush." But no rash or any side effects.
