Why so irritable?
Because I haven't entered a fish yet!  :smt011 :smt013      :smt008

Although yeah, I did notice a subpar photo for an entry like 2 months ago...

I have a question for the AOTY committee. If you are not allowed to have anything in the fishes mouth in the photograph, how come pictures are allowed that do not clearly show the mouth from the overhead position with fingers on the mouth? If it is determined that no space whatsoever should be between the pics of the fish, shouldn't you be able to see both lips in the photograph?

Craig will you just say the picture in question?

I think it's perfectly fine to ask questions here. Publicly. That way the answers are here for everyone to see. In fact there should be a sticky post specifically for AOTY and doty questions. Can we do this Allen?

There is no way that fish is 6".  The board clearly does not have any lines to adequately determine the length of that fish, and after extensive research and analysis, including :
1. Pulling EXIF data of the photo to estimate the sun's position based upon the lat/longitude on the date in question for the location in question
2. Consulting the world's foremost expert on the Plano Molding Expandable Bump Board Dr. Aaron Varsdale.  He described the board to be Model 1936, version 2009.11, which is the mid-range bump board in "scientifically reliable" condition.
3.  Consulting multiple biological experts to determine whether the fish is, in fact, a kokanee.

After all of this data, I have personally estimated the fish at nearly 6.5".  It is clear to me that the competitor is clearly short shrifting his fish in length to the detriment of the competition.  This shall not be allowed to stand.  I protest such that I may not post a single fish this year!

What am I really saying?  C'mon guys, let the committee do their job.

p.s. there is actually a problem with the above fish, but it's not about the length.  It does affect the point value of the fish and could affect the raffle at the end of the year.  But the error is obviously unintentional and none of the AOTY police seem to have a problem with it.

LOL.

I don't have the power to sticky threads anywhere but in the Diving section...that's all you Allen.  :smt002

Seems to me as long as the questions are just questions and not arguments and bashing (which is what I believe rule #12 was created to try and eliminate several years ago) there is no reason why they shouldn't be posted here...or on a seperate thread that the mods can sticky.

For those curious, here is the wording of Rule #12:

Quote
12. Participant complaints should be submitted to the Committee. No bashing of other folks on public boards. Such posts will be deleted by the Admins/Mods, and a warning will be issued. A second violation of this rule will result in a disqualification of the offender from participating in AOTY.

FWIW, every time I get a PM from anyone with an AOTY/DOTY concern/complaint I either post it for the other members of the committe to see and dicuss in the AOTY/DOTY private forum or respond to the PM and cc the rest of the committee on the question so that way everyone is aware of the concern.

Jim

Just an FYI on current status of AOTY/DOTY 2014.

If I counted correctly we currently have 70 people paid up for AOTY and that have created an AOTY account, 34 of which have entered at least one fish.

http://aoty.norcalkayakanglers.com/leaderboard/list

38 people have paid up for DOTY and have created a DOTY account, and 23 of them have entered at least one fish:

http://doty.norcalkayakanglers.com/leaderboard/list

Hard to compare exactly with 2013 because some anglers have created DOTY accounts and some divers have created AOTY accounts, but I can see that there were 62 people on the AOTY leaderbaord (with and without fish) in 2013 compared to 70 so far this year.

The current balance of the AOTY/DOTY Paypal account is $3847.00

Stoked that so many people are playing AOTY/DOTY 2014, and I hope those that are playing are having fun, and enjoying targeting different species!

Any questions please just let me know.

Sincerely,

Jim
