Please be mindful of the symptoms of CO/carbon monoxide poisoning. With the outboard in that location you're going to be breathing some fumes.

That's damn cool!!!! Here's my .02 even tho I'm sure you've heard enough. Never go farther than you can pedal or paddle and if you do make sure you've mapped out alternate pull out points. Regardless if people consider your ride a yak or a boat your still on a narrow piece of plastic about half the width and strength of the "boats" that are comparable. As long as you've got all safety equipment including submersion gear. VHF and a float plan backup paddle and know your pedal/paddle limits. Your golden!!!!once again not baggin on you at all. That's a damn sweet ride and well built. Just try to be ready for any situation Mother Nature or karma can throw at you.

According to Wikipedia .... NO, it wouldn't be.  Nor would using an AI with ONLY the sail rig & not a paddle ... by their definition.

"A kayak is a small, relatively narrow, human-powered boat primarily designed to be manually propelled by means of a double bladed paddle."
I know we're talking about CA but in NV is anything with a motor has to be registered, and if it is sail powered the boat or yak has to be shorter than 8 feet.
