It's a fairly long drive, but for years we hit Van Damme every spring break when the kids were small, we had some weeks that were all rain and some that were all sun, and of course everything in between. Van Damme has nice showers, and when the weather turns bad Ft Bragg has pizza and theaters.

Clear Lake State park is sweet in April. The grass is green, bathrooms clean, plenty of space w/o reservations and fishy water nearby.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Can't go wrong with north beach state camp ground in pismo. Short walk to the beach but out of the wind. Within Walking distance-to town.  showers and restrooms cleaned daily.

That is great! no wind is awesome.
Thanks to all for your help.

Weather wise, i know its ussually cooler on the ocean side, but my lady wants to go up north by sac town.

This will be my girls first time camping so I also want them to enjoy it.

Thanks

Don't think you will be able to get a lakefront site but 1st time camping with kids Collins Lake is pretty nice. My kids and wife loved it we hit it every year. Don't think it really has a grassy area, look at the map to get close to showers, very few bugs, great store with killer ice cream, playground nice sand beach. Fishing is OK. Take a side trip to Bridgeport Coved bridge and walk upstream to the swimming hole.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Icecream sounds like it will please the whole family on this trip.
Thanks for the info.
