Taking full advantage of the lovely ocean conditions we've been having . . I decided to try my luck again at Spanish Bay this morning.  On the drive down I started thinking "I could launch anywhere today".  So I did.  I launched from the turnout on Ocean View just across from the golf course.  Past Coral St quite a bit - maybe half way between Coral St and Asilomar SB.  There are several very large rock outcroppings that tourists like to climb out on and there is a red-light buoy just off the main point.  I did have to paddle between some rocks into some small breaking surf . . . but was able to easily go right over it - never in any real danger of yard sale.  That'd be a really bad spot to tumble in big surf, though.

Never having fished this spot before I was pretty excited to check it out.  Unfortunately, every where I went seals followed me.  I tried to find a spot away from them (having learned my lesson earlier this week) but lost my first fish to a darn seal anyway.  I swear they must know what a fisherperson looks like. . because they were just waiting for me to hook them a snack.  I even think they were trying to hide a bit so I wouldn't see them and move again . . but maybe I'm giving them too much credit on that one.  I don't mind losing the fish so much . . but those heavy leadheads are hard to find!

I finally found a spot with no seals . . and no fish, either (coincidence? doubtfull).  I managed a few small and boring rockfish and a superbly fat black rockfish.  Short trip and made it into my office by 8:30.

Why did I post this boring report?  To tell you all that it's open season on Ocean View Blvd in PG.  Launch anywhere you want.  Fish anywhere you've always wanted to but surf and wind prevented it.  Now, if it can only last into the weekend . . . . .

Very cool.
Sound slike the spot we climbed way out on the rocks at low tide then waded back. I always see tourists get stuck out there!

It's great to have the freedom to explore....too bad the seals got there before you.  But, that messes with my theory that seals are only bad where party boats have taught them that fishing folks means easy meals.  Or, is this a party boat area?

I don't think so.  I've never seen one, anyway.  The boats I saw fishing yesterday were all pretty far out from where the seals were chasing me around, too.  Maybe they move around though and learned to recognize fisherman at a different spot?  They had to know I was fishing by sight because I had no bait with me, no fish on board and they were following me before I even caught the first fish.  Yesterday I had no problem with Seals in the same area.
