Since it came up on one of MolBasser's posts a while ago, I thought I would post this link to the reggae fest http://www.mbayreggaefest.net/ .  The shows do not start untill 11: on both Saturday and Sunday and these concerts are notorious for starting slowly so there is plenty of time to fish in the morning before the consert starts.

I was thinking of hitting either Carmel River State Beach or the spot MByaker described earlier in the week near Pt. Pinos.  I can fish one of these days and would be glad to have company.  If anyone is interested in fishing lets work out a time and place and make it happen.  If you are also planning to hit the Reggae Fest, I can probably arrange to store kayaks at my house if it will help out.  As for mayself, I hope to go to the concert at least once this weekend probably during the afternoon so that I can get in some serious footbag (Hacky Sack) before dark but will need to work out the details and WAF.  But so far fishing is for sure.

I amy also be able to fish Monday, Labor day, September 4.

I am SOOO down to go fishing before the regae fest on Sat or Sunday!
I'm never here for Labor Day wknd so I haven't attended the regae fest since like 2000. I remember it was a lot of fun...but my memory is somewhat clouded. LOL!

I vote for Carmel River SB. Will re-post when I know for sure which day.

PK,

At this point I can be flexible but that may change based on WAF.  I stopped by CRSB this evening just to check out the parking and launching situation at about 5:30.  While there was some surf it was launchable behind the rocks on the north end.  Probably even launchable directly in front of the parking lot but through surf.  If timed right not too bad, worst case 1 or 2 sets of 1 to 3 foot waves but I would opt  for the north end if it is the same.  I did not see any of secret parking spots on Senic, at least all of the westside looked to be marked no parking.  There was one spot near the steps on a side street that was probably OK but I did note that the steps are closed off with a board.  The drag accross the beach to the north end would not be too bad but that lot may not open until 7 (my guess, since no opening time was posted).

I launch at carmel river state beach alot  =)

1 there is like 2 parking spots on the dirt shoulder on the side street right above the stairs at the north end of the beach.
2 yes you can usualy launch righ infront of the regular parking lot
3 the beach is VERY steep thus launching can be very interesting.  (back of the boat still sitting on sand while the front is right where the waves are breaking etc.
4 safest launch is the far north end behind the rocks (you basically launch from there and depending on the surf paddle along the beach for 40 yards avoiding the swell crashing over the rocks as well as the beach surf.)
5 depending on the size of the swell this spot can be very interesting to launch period  =)

I tie everything down.  I have also been washed up upside down on this beach numerous times  =P

It sounds very similar to Monastary Beach, where I have launched often.  If it looks to rough, I will probably change to a different more protected spot but I plan to go out early and am hoping for good conditions.  I think those parking spots you describe are the ones I saw.  Thanks for the input.

I think I'll pass this weekend. Too long of a drive for me and I really would hate the traffic coming back.
Hope you guys catch some quality fish.

Ya, Mahito is talking about the same "secret" parking spots--only room for 3 cars really. Adjacent to the stairs...but I did not know the stairs were blocked off. I was there last wknd and the stairs were accessable but I wouldn't be surprised if they closed them temporarily.

And, for alternate launch spots...the very north end of monastery is usually safe this time of year. You park next to that preschool and carry your yak down to the beach/rocks right there. But we should be able to launch from CRSB without problems.

Hey guys...what does WAF mean? Sorry, my newbie-ness is showing...

Planning on going CRSB saturday morning,

PK I can prabably meet you there.  What time do you plan to launch?

With regard to Monastary, I usually find the launch easier on the south end but have launched from both the north and south ends in the past.  It seems like I get dumped more on hte north end (historically).

WAF= Wife Approval Factor (also see humorous artical on the page Seabreeze referenced).

I would like to get there around 7:30-8. Wish I could say earlier but I usually lag. Will be driving a gold Chevy silverado and paddling a yellow malibu 2. Would like to launch from the north end of CRSB and paddle around the point north to fish off carmel pt area.

Love the WAF reference now! Had read it a couple times and wondered what it was...I liked it so much, i copy+pasted it into an email and sent to my wife at work. LOL!

Sacyak, I'll send you a PM with contact info.

I am going for sure but may switch spots if the swell is ugly.  I will linger on my usual 6 am +/- launch a little but will probably still arrive before you guys.  I get so excited about fishing these days, I hardly sleep the night before so once the morning comes, I am ready to go.  If I stay home too long in the AM I start reading the paper, eating breakfast then start to see things around the house that need to be done and I get all delayed and lazy and sometimes talk myself out of going.  It is usually best for me just to go before I think too much about what else I should or could be doing.

Sin Coast, I have an extra Scrambler if you need a smaller easyer to carry and paddle by yourself boat than the Malibu 2.  It is not rigged but has backrest and paddle and some storage inside plus it is available.  Give me a call if you want me to bring it along and we can coorrdinate a time to meet.  Chris, it would be a pleasure if you join us.
