Yeah, depending on the swell it can be a completely flat (no waves) launch. It takes about 10-15 min to reach the kelp.. depending if you put your back into it or not. :smt003 It's also good training on surf launch / landings too. As always with the ocean... baby steps and learn when you F up.

I live in Aptos so have been checking out local launches.  Asked at the Captiola pier and the launch is public and free.  The beach at the base of the pier is almost always micro small surf so shouldnt be a problem.  If it becomes one, you can always come in on the pier.  I have never landed on a pier, only with those water level black floating platforms.  So it looks like you need to figure out a way to step down into the yak and step up to get onto the pier.

New Brighton looks pretty easy to launch, but the gate doesnt open till 8ish so early mornings are out.

now if I can figure out how to get this WORK thing to stop interfering with my fishing time...
