Aug 23 Capitola Mackfest

Yeah, depending on the swell it can be a completely flat (no waves) launch. It takes about 10-15 min to reach the kelp.. depending if you put your back into it or not. It's also good training on surf launch / landings too. As always with the ocean... baby steps and learn when you F up.

   SOUNDS COOL , COUNT ME IN . I WILL TRY TO BE THERE AROUND 7:45 OR 8. I DONT HAVE A RADIO BUT YOU CANT MISS ME IN MY ORANGE FLAMMED TARPON. I HAVE NEVER DONE A SURF LAUNCH SO AS YOU SAID BABY STEPS AND HOPEFULLY NO #*%@ UPS . SO WHO ELSE IS GOING TO LAUNCH FROM NBB?

I hadn't thought about NBB.  I was planning on dumping my yak in the village....

I live in Aptos so have been checking out local launches.  Asked at the Captiola pier and the launch is public and free.  The beach at the base of the pier is almost always micro small surf so shouldnt be a problem.  If it becomes one, you can always come in on the pier.  I have never landed on a pier, only with those water level black floating platforms.  So it looks like you need to figure out a way to step down into the yak and step up to get onto the pier.

New Brighton looks pretty easy to launch, but the gate doesnt open till 8ish so early mornings are out.

now if I can figure out how to get this WORK thing to stop interfering with my fishing time...
