Well I have finally gotten the chance to see the pics and read the stories Joel told me so much about on Sunday. I was supposed to meet the guys but I was out all Saturday and the guilt bug got me. I felt I better spend some time with the fam.  As it was after breakfast I told my wife everyone went fishing and she told me I was an Idiot for not going. + :smt011

I was further reinforced as the IDIOT when Joel told me how good the fishing was "Epic" to be exact.  Worst of all I was itching to hit bean hollow since thursday and missed it.

Good job guys. I hope there is a next time.

By the Way I was talking to a lady teacher today at school, Irene and she said that Joel is not a good Volleyball player but a he is a great one.  Appearantly he is good at more than Fishing.

Joel, How are the Aronce's, Was Laudenel working, How about his sister? she is probably 22 by now.

J... don't be sad about your lost halibut.  I know how you feel.  I'm still haunted by the 27 plus pound butt that I lost at Linda Mar a couple years ago.  I underestimated the power and life left in that beast.  I already had it on deck tied to a rope stringer.  My problem was that the stringer wasn't securely attached to the boat.  It did a strong back flip off my lap back into the water.  SteveS was there and witnessed it.

Now, I always have an extra game clip opened and already attached to the yak with a thin bungee.  I also believe in having a separate club, not just a gaff/club combo.  I want to put the fishes lights out while it's still on the gaff or in the net, then get it on the game clip ASAP.

I've learned from my hard lesson.

Skallen- Thanx for the landing info, I've been wondering how to go about that, also, how about using a big shark hook for a gaff? With a handle, of course.Or sharpening the end of one game hook and using that as a gaff? I found an old hay-bale hook ( Dockman hook?) And am going to try that as a kayak gaff. Nice stringers everyone, wish I was there! Ben

What about a second gaffing hook on a line to pull the tail? I would think lassoing would be nearly impossible if the fish has any fight left at all. Of course the challenge would be gaffing the fish not youself while a 20-poiund Ling Cod dances in you lap. Easy in theory, really tough in practice I'll bet.

Funny that Laudy was asking about you when I drop by the sushi place (he learned from Vince that you were a kayak fisherman as well) - he had mentioned that you were his BEST football coach ever  :smt002 You should drop by Yokos and say hello.

Joel,

I'll have to do that, Although I was known as a hard ass back when he played.  I was likable but most of the time they remember me as a mean son of a bitch who made them run a lot. We won 19 out of 20 with him. He was a good player.
