Great idea about JB weld!  That stuff is liquid metal in tubes!  Once that stuff sets up it is tough as steel!  I'm thinking, how I might apply some JB weld to my OB hull, and after reading about some other exopies separating form hull over time, I'm wondering if "Feathering" the edges will help prevent an edge for something to catch on?  Oh I've also used hot glue to build up the drag spot on the back of my old OB hulls.
I'm gonna need bigger tubes of JB weld! :smt044

Keeleeze is good stuff. I put a few feet on the bow and stern of my revo. It's not the easiest stuff to work with. I use a heat gun and metal hand roller for installs at the shop. It took me about 3 boats to get the hang of doing the sharp curves.

i bought keeleeze and was wondering if there is a way to get rid of the rippled edges? i have a wilderness systems and the angle of the bow made it difficult to try and make the edges of the keel easy flush with the hull when the keel is at a sharp angle. any advice? thanks all

OK guys so who is interested in the group by? What size and color do you guys want?

Red - 20 feet.  So it blends w/ my Red AI and GWS can't see it. :smt001

Victor - I spoke to Dan, he said that I should order direct since I need odd sizes for my AI.  2 inch and 4 inch cuts in red.

I went with Chuck's JB Weld method. After two trips and 6 days on the Big K (which is hard on the plastic due to the constant wakes from the pb's bashing you up against the rocks) that stuff is bomb proof!  You can see the beating it took below.

Allen, THANKS posting the results and pic of your JB Weld test.  I'm glad it's holding up well.  I appreciate you being our guinea pig. :smt003

One standard package of JB Weld should be enough to do the job on one kayak.  The regular stuff is recommended for marine use, so you should be good.

I just got around to putting JB Marine Weld on my Prowler for keel protection - 10 years of beachings has worn some plastic off, but I think it's pretty thick in that area.
I did a strip 16" @ 2" on the bow and as thick as  I could.  It took the one package of JB (one tube of resin, one tube of hardener).   FYI: I tried using a soldering brush- metal handle, 1/2 long bristles - but the JB was so sticky it pulled the bristles out, and it wasn't brushing much anyway.  The handle of a plastic spoon ( not the cheapest kind though) was just about right to mix and spread it.   Mixed it in a cut-off water bottle.   That stuff is about the consistency of Nutella  or thick cake frosting, but a lot stickier.   I masked the area off, worried that it might run or drip, but it didn't, it did sag a little where it was super thick. I pulled the tape off right after I spread the JB on, and the JB stayed in a straight line.  It was about 55 degrees out when I did it.  Was able to clean hands with some Simple Green and water.
Thanks for the advice, I'm betting it sticks pretty well.
