Leaning toward HMB.  Probably going to launch at 7am.
/Edit

I'm still pretty new to kayak fishing, but I have Monday the 14th off work, and wanted to do some saltwater fishing - HMB, SC, Monterey, SF Bay, anywhere inbetween.  Rockfish, Halibut, Stripers, whatever.  My only requirements are that it be in an area that's fairly calm - no strong surf launches, high wind, large swell, heavy traffic, etc.

If you want to fish on Monday the 14th, and are willing to put up with a newbie, let me know.  I'm coming from Milpitas (Between San Jose & Fremont), but will travel up to 90 minutes or so.

One of the members here took me to Stwillwater Cove in Carmel. Great place for a newbie launch.

That's one of the locations I was thinking about fishing.  My first time out I fished HMB between the buoys on a fairly calm day, and it wasn't bad at all.  On the 14th, my plans changed a bit - one of my co-workers is going to join me, and he's never been in a kayak before...so Stillwater looks perfect.

It looks like most of the fishing in that area is in/around the kelp.  Any advice fishing in the kelp?

Location will depend on the ocean conditions. So make sure to monitor the marine forecast, with regards to swell size & direction and wind speed & direction. You should have an accurate forecast by the 10th.

There m/b some people fishing HMB that day since the Mooch Memorial is the previous day. Santa Cruz is usually the calmest. Capitola w/b a good option since it's a weekday and less tourists. Monterey is always fishy w/a number of different species available. And Stillwater Cove in Pebble Beach is a welcoming spot for newbies since it is usually calm with lots of sealife.

I'm leaning toward HMB.  Anyone going to be there Monday?

Nice thing about HMB, if  it is too rough for you you can fish along the jetty.  I have seen some decent sized lings pulled from up there, and if you feel like giving it a go try dropping a crab trap for some rock crabs, it will get you ready for Nov when the season opens for the Dunghies.
