I don't think that is correct.. if you buy a day ticket at the iron ranger it doesn't give you a separate ticket to carry on the water or if you walk in/ get dropped off you wouldn't have anything either.

What I was told when I bought this years pass was the card allowed people to upgrade without having to issue a whole new pass if they decided part way through the year they wanted to add the kayak.

I keep my non-motorized vessel card with the vehicle pass displayed in the car.

What is interesting is the red wording in the picture below from the American River parkway web page. Talk about getting money hungry... next they're going to want to start charging additional fees above and beyond the typical vehicle pass for bike or the additional bikes, fishing, walks, picture taking ..... :smt011

Thanks to KayakJames for showing me around, and for the lure. No fish for me today. Fish jumping all over the place but not a bite to be had. I wasn't going to go home empty handed for lack of trying, so I pushed it to the very end. On the water at 5:45 AM and back to the launch at 8:00 PM.  Towards the end of the day I saw two or three fish caught from shore. I'm not sure if they were caught legal or snagged. It was a little tougher getting back to the launch than I expected. I don't know if I was a little worn out or if the current picks up after you go under the pedestrian bridge. It was dark so it was hard to judge, but it seemed like it got more difficult to make a couple miles an hour. While I was loading my kayak a park ranger drove up and let me know that the park closed one hour after sunset and I needed to get going. He was very nice about it though. Even though I didnt catch anything i still had a good time and I got to learn the area. Maybe next month I can make a return visit when the fish are biting. Thanks James.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

I think the idea behind that is to get the businesses that are holding classes at the parkway.  I hope the paddleboard yoga classes stay though.... that shit is hilarious.

When u buy a annual pass now they charge you another 20 something for a card you have to carry with u at all times on the water. Weird.

What if I just pretend to be homeless? They never so much as bother the homeless... :smt009
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

For anyone with more questions on the cost and the annual pass I'd say just call the county parks folks. I just bought what I was told I needed to buy in order to kayak the river. And since I do so much it's well worth it to me.
Unless you are homeless. Then just continue to break into folks cars and steal shit. And litter etc.
