You should call Adventures by the Sea, in Monterey. They were selling demo boats for super cheap. I know they have Prowler 13s for $200, so they probably have some used OK Malibu 2 XLs for sale too. http://adventuresbythesea.com/

  I saw a couple of guys on an old necky last week at FT Ross who had it wired with rockfish limits early in the day.  Nice guys and new to the state I think, they got a heads up that you can't add 2 lings to your 10 rockfish limit.

Here's the official word from the DFG (I was 99.95% sure, so I sent an email):

Section 1.91(b) of Title 14, California Code of Regulations (found on page 19 of the 2005 California Ocean Sport Fishing Regulations booklet) states:
 
"RCG Complex means all species of rockfish (genus Sebastes), cabezon (Scorpaenichthys marmoratus), and kelp and rock greenlings (genus Hexagrammos)."
 
So, while it's true that lingcod are members of the greenling family (Hexagrammidae), they are not members of the genus Hexagrammos, and are not included in the RCG Complex aggregate limit of 10 fish. You could legally possess 10 RCG species (9 rockfish and 1 cabezon, 9 rockfish and 1 greenling,  or 8 rockfish, 1 cabezon and 1 greenling) and 2 lingcod.

Thanks for the clarification and your time on this, I love being wrong on that side of things.  Can I add a few salmon, halibut and 20 sole if there is no bag limit on overall daily take?

    Have you thought about just getting your son a small kayak that he could paddle independently ?   

They do grow fast ya know. 


     on the side topic,,    DFG  website shows three cabezon included in the 10 RF limit.
 The daily bag and possession limit is 3 fish within the 10 fish RCG Complex aggregate limit (includes all species of Rockfish, Cabezon and Greenlings), with a minimum size limit of 15 inches total length.

Sure you  can Spike. 20 fin fish with no more than 10 of 1 species. So, 10 rockfish, 2 lings, 2 salmon and 3 cal halibut north of Point Sur (5 South of PS). Plus all the Petrale Sole you want. Nothing wrong with harvesting a legal limit of fish. It's what we do.........

I have no idea how I got my head wrapped around a 10 fish bag limit in California.  Maybe I interpreted that the rockfish complex applied to the bigger picture. That's been in my head for about 6 years since I moved from Mexico to Occidental.
 
If anybody knows or comes across two guys fishing a Necky Tandem (I think they live in Santa Rosa), one with dreadlocks the other with a light southern twang, please send them my way since I owe them a BIG apology for supplying them bad info on the bag limit.

Anyway, my buddy Tim got misdirected in the fog trolling for salmon yesterday but I stayed with him the whole time .  No bites.  We launched at Fort Ross and pulled into Timber cove thinking we were back at FR.  I had left my handheld GPS sitting on the kitchen table and trolled with a compass for direction. 

Costly I fried a plug on my color sonar/GPS some years back after only 10 days OTW. It sat on a shelf for 5 years and while virtually new, the manufacturer won't accept it for service because it's 5 years old.  An expensive oversight, I won't fail to read the warranties and service my electronics promptly.  I recommend heat shrink-wrapping all electric connections, permanent and portable.
