I'm looking for recommendations for a good place to spend 3-4 days kayak fishing.  I'm particularly interested in the Sierras or Shasta area.  Thinking of doing Spicer but wondering what else I might get into.  The more secluded the better.  I'm going into recluse mode.

Lots of options up this way (Shasta).  Family-friendly or solo?  Any target species?  Looking to setup and fish one location, or be a bit mobile?

Solo.  I'd prefer not to be in a crowded area.  I've never fly fished but want to try. Probably trout fishing. How is the bite up in Shasta right now?  I have hiked the Trinity Alps. I'd like to camp in a few spots. Not necessarily stay at a base camp. Open to ideas though!

This. Union Valley, Icehouse and all the little streams up in the Crystal Basin are beautiful this time of year. Plus they are at the back of 20miles of super windy roads, so you gotta WANT to be there...
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Look into Three Lakes, they are near Bucks Lake.  You can drive up to first lake, but to get to the other two you have to kayak and portage.  We always camped and fished on the second lake.  Mainly caught rainbows, but the first lake does have some Browns.

Also in the crystal lakes basin, above Icehouse & UVR is Loon Lake. Beautiful lake w/boat in camping and you can dayhike to small lakes above it (although you probably will want to lock up your yak before day-hiking up to Twin, Island, etc.

Further south by Fresno, I like Lake Edison. You can boat in camp near the inlet at Mono Ck, then hike upriver to fish the stream.

If you want to avoid crowds, avoid Shasta.  It's a mess of houseboats, wakeboarders, and bikinis.  Typical summer fun, but certainly not a wilderness experience.  My choice would be Ahjumawi Lava Springs.  It can get weedy/buggy in the summer, but has great fishing, yak-in camping, a trail system, and is remote enough.  The Headwaters Adventure shop is running a tour up there this weekend, if interested I can get a report on conditions.

I haven't camp there, but I duck hunt big lake every year. Great place to bird watch, and we see people out fishing it every time we are up there. There are monster trout in the lake as well as some very nice bass. We did a dove hunt up there  last year and just fished from shore in between shots, and picked up a few two pounders.

Up I-80 Sawmill and Faucherie Lakes near Bowman Lake are pretty and not too crowded. Rough road going in. 4wd not necessary but good clearance is. You can primitive camp near the shores or there is a small campground in between them. Up near Lassen there are lots of lakes to camp on and more to fish. For both I like Crater Lake (not the Oregon one) and Echo Lake. You can day use into Walker Lake and Almanor. Probably a dozen other lakes close to there that I would love to visit but know nothing about yet. Highland lakes near Ebbetts pass has a campground and fishing. Lots of other places around there you can check out also. The main lakes on HWY 88 (Silver, Caples, Red) get a lot of visitors but there are places to camp off the grid around there and explore. Have camped at Scotts Lake up there. Heard Crater Lake (yes, another lake with the same name) is good but 4wd is required for it. This should be enough to keep you busy for a while. :smt001
