Hello norcalers, I am heading up to these lakes July 18-21.  Any advice on rigs, baits, etc?  We will have kayaks.  Also, about the surrounding creeks, or other lakes?  Feel free to PM if you don't want spill the beans publicly, not sure how sensitive the area is to internet pressure. If you are ever south, I can return the favor for La Jolla info.

Ditto on the wind at Bowman. You don't need 4WD to get in there though. The easy way to get in is to go 89 west out of Truckee and then get on the road to Jackson Meadows Res. Go over the dam at Jackson and continue about 5 miles to Bowman. Right before you get to Bowman the road to Sawmill is on the right just past the PGE cabins. Troll early and late. The launch at Bowman is right at the head of the lake.

X2 what Craig said. 2wd is fine although a little ground clearance doesn't hurt.

Bowman can be a tough lake or very rewarding. I've heard rumors of Kokanee but all I ever caught were trout. Try trolling a small dodger with a needlefish or half a night crawler behind it.

Chucking a 1/4 ounce castmaster from shore can do some damage as well.

Milton Res is pretty sweet too...nice size trout. And there are some awesome spots along the Yuba off Henness Pass if you want an adventure (not really for kayaking though).

Hey Chris,
Just put 2and 2 together. Saw your post on the Wildy team page. I wish I had intel for those lakes, but never been. I would come up for a day but will be at a tourney in Trinidad. Good luck up there.

Cool Ron, good luck at your tourney!  I've digging out my trout gear, it's funny how small rods, reels, line, lures are compared to what I use 99.99% of the year-Pelagic fish gear.

There are Kokanee in Bowman, and they are a tiny 8-10 inches.  I would troll a kokanee pattern plug around for browns.
