Am I the only one who feels like tracking this fuck down and bludgeoning HIM with my paddle???

Killing a fish for food I have no problem with, but killing an animal so that you can catch and release a fish is just wrong on so many levels.

What a senseless disrespect for life...

Completely unnecessary.  Snakes keep rats and vermin in check.

Helluva fish, tho.

Eh .... The reason the snake made a b-line to his kayak is it knew it was bass food at any minute.
Personally if I had a rattle snake trying to get on my kayak or into my tent I would have no problem killing it.
I think I may feel different if he searched out the snake with the intention of using it for bait .....

I was left wondering what the point of releasing the bass is if the sucker has been envenomated by the snake? That rattler does still look alive and even if dead can still deliver the fatal bite...

So why is this any different from any other live bait?

I have caught and released several rattlesnakes in my younger years, but not in a kayak.  If that sucker was trying to board my yak, I might try  scaring it away first, but I wouldn't hesitate to kill it if it didn't get the hint.

Who knows what's legal in Texas?  Cool story either way.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

Well, for what it's worth, I rarely use live bait. When I do, I'm fishing for food, not C&R.

I think reptiles (poisonous or not) are very cool and important creatures, so I don't like seeing them beaten to death for no reason. That's all.

It would be legal in California.  You need a fishing license to harvest reptiles, which you would have while fishing.  You can use legally caught game as bait, there is no size restriction or bag limit on snakes.

I have killed a number of snakes and eaten most of them.  I do find as I get older, the more I let be or relocate to the woods.  I do think they are good for the environment.  I see a lot of lure companies are making snake lures now.  It is amazing what bass will eat.

I remember watching some duckling cross franks track in the delta one day.  I thought what a hazardous crossing.  It was not long till I heard a splash and there was one less duckling.  Not sure if it was a large mouth of striper, but that is dangerous territory for a little animal!

If any of the various creatures in this story are to be considered badass, it's the freeking bass who was more than happy to wolf down a poisonous snake LOL.
