I went out to Lake Natoma Saturday morning with James (Rider) for some morning fishing and afternoon self rescue practice. We were on the water by 8:00 and we were greeted with the National Anthem (it was for a rowing tournament). We couldn't stand up but we took off hats and paid our respects.
We paddle to the creeks and it felt like we were in the back woods even though we were just 20 minutes from downtown Sac. We even encounter a deer swimming right in front of us. The fishing was slow and small but fun. I caught 3 little LMB on Senko’s with the biggest being only 14”. Rider caught a couple LMB himself.
At 11:00 we paddle back to the launch area and met up with Tony (Fishcomb) to practice self rescue. Tony and James did it like pro’s right off the back. I had some issues with my technique and got winded with my multiple attempts. James paddled next to me and helped me back on my yak. After I got my wind back and went over some techniques with James and Tony I gave it another try and successfully did it. We ended up doing it a bunch of times and tried different ways to flip back our yaks. I want get out and practice some more before heading out to the salt. Thank you James and Tony for coming out and doing this with me.

Nice looking bass Bones!!

Thanks for coming out and doing some self rescue with me! I really needed to try to get over the phobia of falling into the water. I freaked out in the beginning but after doing it many times i felt more comfortable doing it. I wanted to go back out on sunday to do some more because it was hella hot in sacramento :smt044

Surprised this report hasn't got more attention. Congrats on the fish & thanks for practicing self-rescue, guys! More people should do it, for sure. I think this is a sweet idea = go fishing, practice rescue, and have fun! Thanks for the great report & details!

+1.

That's one of the advantages of kayak diving. I get to practice self-rescue all the time.   :smt003

Awesome job! I need someone to help me practice rescue and also how to enter in the yaks once you flip.

The activist is not the man who says the river is dirty. The activist is the man who cleans up the river.
