We went out of Stillwater on the 8th, Saturday. It was only 7 in the morning and the wind was already blowing and the swells were pretty big already. Tho I felt a lot safer in my sit on top, the pinnacles didnt seem like a good idea. From time to time a really big set would come in, add the wind to that and you have a recipie for trouble. Dave is still fishing from his closed deck. The bite was kind of slow, caught and released a bunch of blues that were smallish. I did keep the one vermillion that I caught, which I just now ate. Delicious! I caught 1 ling cod, but it was 23 inches.
The parking lot was a zoo, when we came back in. When we got there in the morning first thing, a guy came up and reminded us to park by the hedges. It seems some kayakers might have rubbed some of the clubbers the wrong way from the impression I got. We reassured him that we park over by the hedges and mentioned that we try to encourage everyone else to do the same. It was really crowded when we came in. So much so that we didnt rinse any of our stuff off, and I even drove back to the hedge parking section to change from my drysuit into my regular clothes. Even so there are some rather snobbish people who seem to think the own the whole dang place, no matrter where you park.  A lot of tounge biting going on on our end.  :smt013
Seabreeze, know of any other good rockfish spots? Im wondering if theres a way to check somehow to see if theres some kind of event happening down by the beach there at Stillwater. They were setting up a barbeque and all kinds of tables and chairs for something. In a case like that I think it would be better to perhaps fish somewhere else for the day. But then again it is a public access beach.

I wish I could find the agreement regarding coastal access for Stillwater.  I had it at some point.  But, I do remember that those parking places are not required to available 365 days/year.  In fact, they can use them for other uses quite a bit.  Sorry that I can't find the doc.

In the past, when I've found an activity going on there I've just gone back up, gotten my $8.75 back and gone to Lover's or something.  Carmel River State beach is good too.
