Despite the small craft advisories, we went for it this morning because it was a NW swell and wind that brought up the warnings.  Stillwater is protected from those so we might be okay.  My goodness, we were very okay so long as we didn't head too far from Pescadero Point.

The morning launch was glass.  We paddled out to where we wanted to fish, half way to the pinnacles, but the 4-7? foot swell was just no fun.  So, we began working our way in.  As soon as we got out of the heavy swell we had steady if not heavy hits.  The sun came out and we were even warm until the 20knot winds came up but, heh, with no swell, we still fished for an hour.......... :smt004

Total for the day....two underlings and our first keeper.  A nice to eat 24 incher.  One 17inch Vermillion and the usual variety of rockfish.  It was nice to see some browns to raise our confidence in differentiating between them and Kelp rockfish.  The Kelp RF is a meatier fish so we now know which size each species needs to be to be a keeper.

I had the sleigh ride with something that never came to color............ :smt011

All in all what a delightful day for one forecast to be so rough.

The first photo below is of the lone cypress at Arrowhead Point from outside the cove.  Note the swell. Too nasty to fish.

The second shows the same cypress at 11:00 on the way in.  The gulls are all facing into the 20 kt. wind.

That's one of the cooler lone cypress shots I've seen.  I'm going to have to suck it up and pay for the priveledge of driving down 'rich person lane' and check that place out sometime.
Fishing is cool

Sounds like the weather cooperated for the most part. Great pics too. I can't wait to get down there next time.

It's not often we can catch thel image of the stark beauty and interplay that makes up our early morning world.  Randy and I had a special morning.......... :smt004
