This year my wife decided that I needed a lifetime fishing license!  Okay! Twist my arm some more I enjoy it! :smt044  She busted my balls about not getting one 20-30 years ago, when they were much cheaper (But I made a lot less money then also!) With this years tax refund, she dropped the $742 for me on one.
For those that already have one, how do these work?  Do I get one in the mail each year? Do I have to renew each year? How do I add the different stamps to it each year, like second rod, or maybe steelhead?
What does the thing look like?  Similar to the regular fishing license I finally got for this year?

They used to mail them to you in December each year. But now you just go to a store that sells licenses and give them your CA ID...then they print the license for you. It will look just like the regular annual license except it says Lifetime on it.  Bought mine for $490 in ~2002. So it's already paid for itself in 11yrs. At age 33, I'm fishing for free for the rest of my life.
(also got the lifetime stamps pkg for another $150 btw)

For any veterans here with 50 percent or higher disability rating, you are eligible for a basic fishing license annually for $2.70 + whatever the retail outlet charges. The tags are discounted a few cents less. FWIW, I would prefer to be at full health and pay the normal or lifetime fee.

The 2 rod stamp was $342 wasn't going to push that with the wife.  Hopefully I can just add the 2 rod to the license when I pick it up each year.

got one for Nathan on his 16th birthday.  I figure it is an investment in fresh fish in my old age  :smt003
