You need to use special rivets. The ones you get at Harbor Freight or other hardware stores will pull out. You can get the tool cheap, but get the rivets from Dan. They have three grooves on the shank that expand outwards to hold under the plastic.

Make sure you still get the plastic rivets from Headwater or wherever. The ones that come with the rivet gun are mostly meant for metal applications. They have a different spread.
