If you're just rolling the yak across hard-ground like pavement or dirt, then regular carts work fine. The true advantage of the Wheeleez is on beaches or soft-packed sand--they are the best option for sandy beaches.
Best deal is if you see someone selling their kayak & gear--if they are including a Wheeleez cart, then try to buy the cart separately. I remember seeing a set of the oldschool Rolleez at MBK in Monterey for $180 (plus NCKA discount) back in December.

I have both, I have the tuff tire wheeleez for pavement and then the Beach cart for the sand. Wheeleez is the way to go. It's one of the items that I think everyone on here agrees to.

...one last note.  If you do get a cart for sand use, be sure to get the sand tires.  I have a cart with inflatable tires with tread like a bike but about 6" wide.  They sink right into the soft sand at MBK launch.  Would have been easier to pull the kayak without tires than those.  Also opt of plug-in ones if you can.  I found more fustration in the "strap-on" tires than they have been worth, to me.

Any one want to buy a strap-on ...........

.............. set of tires!  Theyreeee Grrrrrrreeeeeeaaaaaatttt! :smt044

Based on previous posts, i believe EVERYONE who bought something else ended up regretting at some point.  That's why they charge us ridiculous prices...they know we all come around at some point. :))

Peace & blessings!

The only thing I would trade my wheeleze for would be a sherpa that could carry my kayak for me.  I love my wheeleze!!!

+1!  I've been several other routes  - the best and last is the wheeleez!

There's a reason you'll never find a used set of Wheelez for sale!

I can't believe the large wheeleez now retail for $240 at REI.  They cost close to regular car tires. I paid $180 for mine 3 plus years ago.
They're trying to make up for all those defective ones they tried to sell years ago, that came more to light after the last Elk derby.

:smt044  My OB, on its stock Hobie cart (Plastic hard wheels) is a "Bouncing betty" when I pull it on slightly bumpy asphalt!  I tipped it a few times hauling it to the waters edge at the last O'Neil forbay F&C.  My evil twin Yort was looking for an unused set of wheeleez to nab for the short trip out & back, and sadly, thankfully he didn't find a set. :smt044.
Unfortunately, I can't justify to my CFO (My wife) the $$$ for new wheeleezs at the moment.  :smt011

With the high cost of the Wheeleez, I'd like to use one cart for all types of terrain (beach wheels on rock or asphalt, if needed), but am wondering if the beach wheels are durable and effective on surfaces other than sand. If not, can you buy one cart and interchange two different types of wheels, depending on terrain? Don't know if that would save much though as the tires are expensive...

Check out this video at 2:10 minutes, wheeleze was used on the concrete parking lot to the beach launch.

The beach wheels work fine on all surfaces.  Don't overinflate--- #1 cause of beach tire failure is over inflation.
