Please excuse my ignorance, but how is a free anti-virus company earning any money and staying in business?  Are they doing something behind the scenes to its users to make a profit.  Just curious.

For those still looking for the full fledged versions, the Frys Electronics ad today has Kaspersky, McAfee, Panda, and AVG paid versions of Antivirus for free after rebate.

But you have to pay for virus definition updates every year.

I always seem to be able to get the program in December for a full rebate.  There are no other costs.  The virus definitions are continually updated throughout the year as long as the software license is current.
