I'd go with Thule either way... Hate those round bars!!! :smt013

Jim,

The previous posts about the long bar are true, you will walk into it at some point, it sucks. At your height, it will likely hit you right at eye level. I also have the 48", it works great for 2 yaks and most anything, and its safer. I only have the big bar for the skybox and holding 2 kayaks and a eazy up for camp trips. The shorter bars are also cost le$$.

I have the Thule square bar on the civic, also works great! Cant go wrong with either.

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

So....I ended up getting these racks with the 65" bars from Malone:

http://www.maloneautoracks.com/cross-rail.php

DISCLAIMER: I got a deal on them through being on the Jackson Kayak Fishing Team, but even the regular price was cheaper than a lot of the other ones I saw online.

There is also a sale online right now for them through ORS:

http://www.orsracksdirect.com/malone-universal-cross-rail-system.html

They were super duper easy to install. I am really bad at installing stuff...just ask my wife or porky.  :smt002 But, I had them on and ready to go in less than 10 minutes!  :smt007

They look sexy and feel sturdy.  If I come across any problems with them I will let you all know, but I was stoked to find a lower cost alternative.

Jim

I know I'm a little late to this one, but I got the 78" bars and cut them down to 72".  65" seemed to narrow, especially if you have a couple wide kayaks side-by-side, and 78" seemed to wide, especially for my head to run into.

After cutting, be sure to de-burr the outside rim to match the edge of the originals, because when you put the caps back on, they will split over time (DAMHIK).

Thanks Allen....65 DID look pretty small once I installed them last night, but folks have assured me I will be able to get two yaks on there side by side...next time I load it up with two yaks will take pics and post here.
