So how much was that six pack?
and was it worth it?

They have Pliny the Younger available this week on tap at the Russian River Brewery in Santa Rosa.

I also got a six pack of the Westy XII. I'm not a big fan of Belgians but had to try it considering the following it has. Definitely the best Belgian I ever had, but wouldn't do it again considering the cost.
Pliney the Younger is still available at the brewery until this Thursday. Went there for lunch last week. It tastes a lot like Pliney the Elder (also my favorite beer right now) but on steroids. Much stronger and heavier. It is good but not a beer that you would have a couple of pints of with a meal. Too heavy for that. I actually went back to a PtE for my second beer. They do distribute some kegs. I haven't found a list of who got them yet. Check your local pubs that carry a good selection of guest beers and maybe you can find some.

I would have liked to get a six pack of Westvleteren... you are one of the lucky ones that was able to get some of that beer. The Monks needed a new roof so they released it for the first time ever released it outside of the monastery. They have strict rules on how you can buy it. first you call and give them your licence plate on you car, if you are picked you can drive there and pick up a case... it is bizarre, and if you buy it you can not resell it.

http://www.monkskettle.com/  This place is serving some with pairings at $195 a pop.

I wonder what the best rated beer in the world tastes like... I guess I will keep guessing :smt002

Enjoy that beer!!!

I am going to put that one on my list.

We were just down at Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City for SF Beer week. Kern River Brew was there and as soon as 6pm hit there were over a hundred people in line for Citra. They ran out in half an hour and there were a lot of unhappy people... I asked the waitress if we could get some but she said we had to get in line " it's a lot of hype anyway, just like Pliny the Younger" she said they make other beers that are great. I never had Pliny the younger or Citra, however if I have a lot of time to waste some day I'll try them. It may be easier to get Citra since they bottle it. I'd say Pliny the Younger isn't much different than the Elder. Time will tell.

Thanks for the tip.

Younger is not hype! It's really that good. I've had it the last two years. I'm trying to get up there by Thursday, but I've been fighting the flu for a week. Here's the recipe for both elder and younger from the brewer:

I'm a home brewer and have a few gallons of something similar to elder in the fermentor. Those simcoe hops smell great. I'm hoping to have this and a recently brewed Koelsh on tap at GS7.

I am sure the Younger is good. When she and I used the word hype we were referring to Russian River releasing Younger and not bottling it. That creates hype, when you have 300 people waiting in line for 5 days in a row to get a sip of a certain type of beer that creates hype. It is a great marketing tool!! Personally there are very few things I will wait in line for 2 hour for but that is just me...

Don't get me wrong. I like Russian River brew and buy from them quite a bit. I do think the balance of Pliny is great and I like the fact they are willing to give home brewers a recipe to try. I tried to brew Blind Pig but I screwed up dry hopping it... it was okay. I will try the Pliny in spring and see how it comes out.

Good luck with your batch of Pliny. I just brewed a porter and stout since it is winter time. The Porter was good, not sure about the stout yet.

PS Not sure how to do that quote thing but I will do a search...
