Tried Laugunitas Sucks yet? Hoppy! Brown Shugga ain't bad either. So many good beer out there now. I remember 30 years ago there were so few choices and all lagers...

Lagunitas Sucks is good stuff and it is going to be permanent release instead of limited soon.  It started last year when they didnt couldnt get the ingrediants to make the Brown Sugga.

If you get a chance try the 75 minute.  Its a blend of the 90 and 60 with maple, but you barely taste the maple.  If your brave try the 120 minute and thats all you will need cause it comes in above 20%abv.

If any of yall come up north for the Rockfish Wars 3 you should stop in at the Local on F st in old town Eureka.

Here is the current list of beers on draft it changes almost everyday:

AEppelTreow Barn Swallow Cider
Anderson Valley Poleeko Gold Pale Ale
Ballast Point Sculpin IPA
Bayerischer Bahnhof Leipziger Gose
Chimay Triple (White)
Crispin Original Cider
De Ranke Guldenberg
Deschutes Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale Nitro
Deschutes The Abyss
Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat Ale
Green Flash Cedar Plank
Green Flash Green Bullet
Green Flash Palate Wrecker
Green Flash Surfs Up 2008 Symposium IPA
Green Flash/Cigar City Candela Rye
Heretic Evil Twin
Hogan's Draught Cider
Logsdon Kili Wit
Mad River Bourbon Barrel Extra Stout
Mendocino Oatmeal Stout
Rodenbach Grand Cru
Six Rivers Raspberry Lambic
Spire Mountain Dark & Dry Cider
Spire Mountain Pear Cider
Upright Four
Warsteiner Pilsner

They had the 120 minute on draft but only in an 8 oz pour so I opted for 16 oz of the 90 minute. I'll give it a try next time.

You guys brew? So do I, I have not been doing it long. Only 7 batches so far.

One of my favorite IPA's is Pliny the Elder from Russian River, it's a double though:

 http://russianriverbrewing.com/

What a balance that beer has...

Blind Pig is great also and it is less potent than Pliny. If I am driving through Santa Rosa I will stop in with a growler and have them fill it up. Nice and fresh!

The store in Eureka has quite a selection, I will have to stop in next time I am in the area. I have been talking about doing a trip up north and hitting the breweries in Oregon, kind of a beer vacation. There are so many good breweries there, aren't we luck to live so close to some of the best beer in the world!

Laugunitas is still on of my favorites. I must stop in there some day, they have a great beer garden with live music. I did not know sucks will be in production all the time... nice.

Nice! Ya I have been brewing for quite a few years now and you can't beat homebrew. Taste, quality, and pure satisfaction knowing you made it. If you are looking for a good place for grains, kits, or supplies Austin Homebrew has good pricing and quality. I have been buying from them for years now. Here is the link http://www.austinhomebrew.com/ , if you sign up with them they send out monthly specials and offer free shipping certain times of the year. This last weekend was perfect example, they had free shipping on orders over $49 which I stocked up and took advantage of.

Here's a picture of the kettle I made capable of handling a 10 gallon batch without boil over. I run it with a digital wireless thermometer/timer and have a filter system inside the bottom of the kettle prior to exiting the SS welded valve.

What's the deal with Austin? Austin Homebrew, Austin Kayak! :smt003

Thanks for the tip, I will check them out. That is a nice setup you have. I am still doing partial grain brews. I think I will move up to all grain brewing this year. I try to keep my local homebrew store in business and support them when I can.

You are right, there is nothing like creating something yourself and sharing with family and friends. It's a great hobby...

Pliny the Elder is one of my favorites too! There are a few guys that brew here and most that just drink  :smt005

^havnt had one of those before, but our Co-Op carries it.

Try some Pliney the Younger since its beer week.  I have yet to try it yet and see if it lives up to the hype.

I am going to put that one on my list.

We were just down at Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City for SF Beer week. Kern River Brew was there and as soon as 6pm hit there were over a hundred people in line for Citra. They ran out in half an hour and there were a lot of unhappy people... I asked the waitress if we could get some but she said we had to get in line " it's a lot of hype anyway, just like Pliny the Younger" she said they make other beers that are great. I never had Pliny the younger or Citra, however if I have a lot of time to waste some day I'll try them. It may be easier to get Citra since they bottle it. I'd say Pliny the Younger isn't much different than the Elder. Time will tell.

Thanks for the tip.

I got ahold of a 6 pack of Westvleteren 12 when it was rsleased last year on 12/12/12.  It is the holy grail of beers and has been rated the best beer in the world several times.  Its a Belgian quad at 10.2% and besides the release last year on 12/12/12 to raise money for a new roof for the monestery, you usually have to visit the brewery and make an appointment with the monks to buy some.  It was only released to one distributor in Massachusetts.  I was lucky enough to secure the 1 of a couple of six packs that were available through my local beer bar The Local in Eureka.  Most expensive 6 pack I will probably ever buy, but I may sell the empty box and empty bottles on ebay to cover most if not all of the price of the beer.  I probably should have already listed it on Ebay though while the hype is still alive.

I saved 2 to age for a year or two.

Westvleteren 12 .........
How did it taste?
Any other beer yo can compare it to?
What did that 6 pack set ya back?
I saw the article when it was released and thought about it for about a  milisecond after reading the cost. I forgot how much it was but too much for me to spend on a 6er.
