I would like to hunt them, if it was legal, I think a sea lion bowhunt would be awesome. In the mean time, pun intended, I will keep poppin them with my paddle.

I would hunt them Also... They most likely taste great! Solid fish diet! Probably taste a little like whale, and I had that in Norway years ago.... Was awesome!

Yeah, I'd hunt them if it was legal.

I always imagine when I see them that it would be cool to take like one a year per family...but maybe only with a speargun or harpoon...native style...no firearms...stock your freezer with seal meat to last you through the winter.

I have seen them on the Russian as far up as Cloverdale... which is nuts as there are spots they can't swim through on the way up.  They would actually have to crawl over some riffles on the way.  Haters seem to believe this isn't a natural behavior for them.  Any evidence suggesting they haven't been doing this forever?

I have a good friend who is a Miwok Indian here and told me there is no history in his tribe of the sea lions coming up the AR. they have quite a few sacred spots along the river and have shared stories over centuries with no sea lion activity.

FYI, he has said it's ok to refer to him as a Miwok Indian. For the PC police.

It's sad that you felt the need to clarify... but such is the world we live in.  As to whether it is normal or not, I guess I don't really care.  I'm sure at the root of it, human activity is to blame.  My guess would be the primary reason for there being to great a population of seals and sea lions is that there aren't enough sharks.  Pick your poison I guess.

A furbag was found in a St Helena vineyard near the Napa River a few years ago. Strangely when DFG showed up the next morning, it had been shot dead.
