Anyone here make spiral wrap rods? I had one that I really loved. Unfortunately I went for a swim and since the rod wasn't leashed, it's now at the bottom of Monterey Bay. I would really like to have one for the next rock cod season. I don't have the expertise or setup to build one. Is anyone with experience willing to accept a commision to build one for me ? I'll pay in advance and find the blank.

Thanks
Kirk

Erik Kunz (screen name KZ) used to make acid wrap rods. Not sure if he still has the time nowadays. You might want to send him a PM, though.

Haha thanks Jim.  Every rod that I have built for myself for the last 10 years or so has been spiral wrapped.

I'd love to build one for you but just don't have time these days.  I do have a Calstar graphiter 700M that I'd be willing to part with, but you probably are looking for something lighter.

I'd be happy to coach you on the setup if you wanted to build your own.

Nothing wrong with a Muskie blank, but  sometimes they are a faster action than I prefer.  Certainly worth considering though.  Also, the line and lure ratings are really musky technique-specific... They don't translate we'll to saltwater line and lure ratings.  You almost have to get the blank in your hands to make a good selection.

Call Darren Scaife at 707 889 0677 ... he is a master rod builder .. and does great spiral wrapped rods.

darren@finjunkie.com is his email address.

Check out his other rods, too. Pretty cool.  He's got a 49'ers rod and a raiders rod he just built that are way
cool.
