I explain it to my friends in Montana like this: Remember when we were elk hunting when it was -20? Had Wranglers, a T-shirt, Flannel, and a jacket on. The coldest I have ever been in my life, hands down, was 40 degrees on the Sonoma Coast. I had wranglers on, T-shirt, long sleeve Carthart shirt, Flannel, hooded sweatshirt, and a parka on. More hypothermic than the day at GS4 where I went into the drink, and only had wetsuit pants, 2 mm, and layered shirts/hoodie on. I was soaked, and in big trouble, and bloodbath had to help me in. The humid cold we have here in CA, is worse than the dry, below zero cold of the midwest.

I lived in north Idaho in the 60's I know what cold is. but here it is a different type of cold. I remember in Idaho the thing was to see who wore just short sleeves to school first. Today it was 48 here and I was in a down jacket. Now I'm acclimated here and couldn't move up north any more.
