How do people in the rest of the country stand Californians when we freak out over 55 degree temps?  Ha!!  I saw this video and couldn't stop laughing about it.

Thanks for sharing, I always had a hard time telling my friends in Northern Maine that it was cold here.

Snowboarded Heavenly on Saturday, -7 at the top. I grew up in NE so I know what cold is. Wasn't too bad as long as exposed skin was covered. Brrrrr

It was a beautiful day in Monterey this am.  Took the dogs for a walk aroun 11am on the trail by MBK and the puddles were all frozen over till after noon.  Side note, they had a huge berm of sand build up blocking the beach access to the left of MBK by the pier.

I explain it to my friends in Montana like this: Remember when we were elk hunting when it was -20? Had Wranglers, a T-shirt, Flannel, and a jacket on. The coldest I have ever been in my life, hands down, was 40 degrees on the Sonoma Coast. I had wranglers on, T-shirt, long sleeve Carthart shirt, Flannel, hooded sweatshirt, and a parka on. More hypothermic than the day at GS4 where I went into the drink, and only had wetsuit pants, 2 mm, and layered shirts/hoodie on. I was soaked, and in big trouble, and bloodbath had to help me in. The humid cold we have here in CA, is worse than the dry, below zero cold of the midwest.

Let me start by saying,
The coldest day ever was a 32 deg. day on the Calif. Delta.
I have lived in Colorado and had many days below 0 deg. but nothing chills you more than the wet cold of the Delta. When I had my first -0 day, I was suprised at how warm I felt. In the Mid West, they don't have the same chill as Calif. because it is such a dry cold. I could'nt believe it when my Boss at the time asked me to come in because it was to cold to be working outside .... felt like a 50 deg. day in Calif.
Should have seen their faces when I was waring shorts on a 10 deg. day while it was snowing ;0)

How do people in the rest of the country stand Californians when we freak out over 55 degree temps?

Yeah we freak out over 50* temps but you wanna see some real hysteria, wait till the first real rain of the season and the whole bay area news scene turns to stormwatch 2013.  Big stories include:

Reporter guy on a flooded street corner talking about caltrans trying to unclog a sewer drain.

Reporter lady live on scene at the mall where there's been a run on umbrellas and rubber boots.

Reporter lady in rain with umbrella interviewing people about their reaction to the rain, without fail she sniffs out the most confused over-reactionary person on the street for a 3 second quote "omg its gonna rain for forty days and forty nights, we need to build a boat, grab your pets and follow me!!"

Reporter guy in trench coat and hard hat filming live in front of a downed tree branch, pg&e doesn't know when power will be restored."

Reporter guy at the damn of lexington filming kooks dancing and cheering at the base of the dam as it starts to spill over.

Weather guy estimating that its gonna last for three more days and it stops raining as soon as he makes a prediction.

Morning commute guy at the desk with gridlocked traffic and red tail lights lighting up the screen behind him suggesting people use public transportation today.

I'm sure I can go on.....and on....and on...

PS....

Pretty sure the rest of the country can't stand Californians no matter what we do, the green eyed monster is an ugly ugly thing  :smt003

31 this morning on my side of the mountain. We don't get frost because of the redwood canopy.

I like it, it feels like winter.

But when it snows, I stay off the roads until about 10am, after all the "I'm-late-for-class" students have finished stacking their cars into trees, ditches, and each other.

BTDT, and totaled a BMW with the back of my truck in 2004. :smt003
The kid said "I put my brakes on and they didn't do anything." Well, with 3" of dry snow, and an inch of solid ice beneath that, and a speed of 40+ mph, no your brakes won't help much, But the rear bumper of a beater 4x4 will stop ya. :smt044

For the first time I can recall, our ground was frozen today! Along with the hoses  :smt013  Guess it's better than being muddy!   :smt044  Too cold to be doing anything outside here until the afternoon.
