i'll be driving to baja for a month between Dec. 15 and Jan. 15. If anyone else is gonna be down there give me a shout. I'm going to couple of semi-secret spots north and south of Loreto. I'm planning on a three-four day drive initially then two weeks or so in one spot, a week in the other spot and then the grueling trip back north.

Last year at this time i went down for 2.5 weeks which was awesome (see photos) but now i've got more time off of work so i'm packing the truck and heading south again.

no fish pics cuz this was before i was into fishing and kayaking! camping there last winter i was merely snorkelling and getting clams and being taunted by the fish everywhere i looked. So now i've bought a kayak (rtm abaco from spike at kayakfishing.com- awesome boat) and a bunch of fishing gear and i'm off to mexico again, properly equipped. A beginner now but after a month down there i should at least progress to an advanced beginner...

Flew to La Paz a month ago for a quick six day scuba diving and fishing trip- the dorado were practically jumping into the panga! Got a pampano as well.

If you do it again next year and with enough notice I'm in  :smt003

It's been a while since I've driven down there but have been itching to do so again.

Good luck and be safe.

Any trouble with the "locals" down there? Seems like when you start bringing better things down there it will entice other to become curious of your stuff too. How far away if the local tavern or town? Looks fun for sure!

Not one bit of trouble at all with the locals last time i was down there. in fact, i feel much safer there than at any campground anywhere in the u.s. (i've been to dozens if not hundreds over the years). no tavern or town for miles and miles however. two hours of hi clearance 4x4 from the highway (and no trailer) will get you to where i'm going. (after 3 day drive from the border).

speaking spanish helps but there are plenty of gringos down there with practically zero spanish and they do ok. i used to live in spain and guatemala so it's not much of an issue with me.

We got home 11/17, after 5 weeks in Bahia de los Angeles, the sea of Cortez side of Baja. The trip is worth the drive!
We do it twice a year,Spring and Fall is the best.I got to swim with Whalesharks this time and got some gopro footage.
Have a great trip !
