Scott .... you are TOO true is stating that this is, in summary, for the fun of the sport.  Seems like this is a lightly spirited debate of symantics that should be taken as such, lightly spirited because in the end, it IS about having fun on your prefered ATC; aquatic transportation craft.

Choose your boat based on:
Speed
Stability
Comfort
Weight
Fishing Potential
Cost

Your boat should have the features which give you the best chance to kill your target species. So if you were a bass angler, the PA would be the best choice. If you are commando rockfishing, the T13 would be my choice. Don't worry about whether it is called a kayak, boat or sailboat. It's about catching fish and having fun. Do you think the Hobie AI guys feel bad they can't compete in the AOTY? :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

This.  It doesn't matter whether some dude with an opinion (like me) considers your boat a kayak or a Super-awesome-peddle-and/or-wind-driven-fish-catching-machine, get the boat that fits your needs.

If you can lift it over your head solo, its a yak.  If you can hoist a boston whaler over your head solo, call it whatever you want and I will agree  :smt003

Thanks everyone for the replies...I should have read that other thread first, a lot of good info. I'll make my final decision this weekend when I test ride them all. It almost seems like it would be a good idea to have more than one kayak for different types of fishing. Since I'm buying the wife one also, maybe I'll use that as an excuse to get two types of fishing kayaks  :smt045

ATC, here's my 2 cents, buy the boat that best fits you and you will enjoy the hell out of it. As for your wife, go get the Wildness System Ride 115 or 135. Here is why: if you decide to use the yak for lake fishing, the Ride is a sick yak for that. You get to fish ocean with your Hobie, fresh water with Ride and visa versa. If you have a son or daughter, WS Tarpon 100. The 100 is awesome for lakes and rivers with trees and small/tight spaces. You said it best, it's an excuse to buy more toys and I just gave you some excuses.  :smt001

I'm bias to WS yaks  :metal

Great way to start a fight on your first day of school, Joey! Haha jus giving ya crap.
Before deciding which model kayak to get, try as many as possible. And then consider what type of fishing you will be doing. Ocean vs freshwater...delta bassin or SF Bay halibut...river vs lake... That way you'll have a good idea what characteristics/features/specs are best for YOU.
Either way, you are probably goin to be stoked about many facets of kayak fishing--especially when compared to the hassles often involved with boat ownership. There are a lot of guys on here who converted from. Oaters to kayakers. And I can't think of a single one who regretted the move.

As for the Pro Angler...ask the guy in a Triton if it's a kayak or boat. 99% of the population considers it a kayak. The other 1% is biased against Hobies due to whatever reason.

I am 6 ft 210lbs. My first YAK and certainly not my last is a PA... Everything about it is true... Out of water=tank... Otw=CADILLAC... Haha it has only seen sp bay and salt and the thing handles great... Of course speed is an issue plus wind drag. But bottom line.... I love being otw fishing. I can always play catch up with the ai, ws, or revo guys. I jus wanna cruise and enjoy my time otw. My girlfriend has peaked an interest in kayaks so that's when I will choose secretly my second fishing kayak.

Enjoy the shopping... But more importantly get ready for the madness...

You could also make the argument that unless its covered with seal skin over a wooden frame that its not a real kayak lol. But what ever your definition af a kayak is, they're addicting and its impossible to own just one.

just to open an old can of worms.according to someone here all hobies are kayaks, just not the pro angler.whatever the pa is ill tell you guys who dont care for it or even hate it.im always dry no swamp ass or wetnuts.even when i was out in sc all i had on was a jacket and shorts.only thing that got a little chilly was my feet.due to spray and no shoes.wasnt very smart of me to dress so casual but if i was smart i guess i wouldnt need someone here to tell me its not a yak .the pa12 is not as much of a beast as the 14,youll be able to man handle it a little better.its no outback but its no 14 also.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
