Shelter Cove 8/15

The Prophet and myself are hitting Shelter Cove tomorrow morning, I'm shooting for 7am launch, probably will be closer to 8 knowing me, the Prophet, knowing him around 9. Last day of 2012 for the rockfish at the cove and the ocean conditions look awesome. Anybody and everybody is welcome to join.....

OH SH!T...I thought the season was open til Sept this year. But you're right--it closes Aug 15 @ the Cove.

Would love to, but the big salmon are cruising the beaches near the jetty so hopefully tomorrow is the day for my 40" salmon.

I heard there was a possible jumper spotted out by the Hat yesterday.

Why does shelter cove close? We just found that place a couple of weeks back and were planning a sep return trip. I couldn't find anything on dfg website.

Shelter Cove is lumped in with the Mendo coast area, which has a lot of yelloweye RF--and they want to limit the number of YE's incidentally caught (3.1mt is the max collective amount for recreational anglers--if they determine we've exceeded that number, they shut down the RF season prematurely).
But I heard they're extending the RF seasons in upcoming years. Although it doesn't make me feel any better right now--I was planning to make a banzai run in late Aug but not anymore...D'OH!
