After trying to troll for the first time yesterday, I quickly realized that trolling with one rod was more like paddling in circles. After about a half hour of attempting to track straight, I came up with a good idea. I clipped a down rigger clip on my crate, which caused the line to be sucked up against the boat. I was then able to paddle straight as an arrow.

I like it.

Be sure to have a limber rod and reel it down so there's a nice arch in it.  Once a fish hits and the clip releases the rod will have to absorb the slack.  Nice job.

I get paid, but I can take volunteers with me.  If you are interested, send me a PM with your days off.  We may do a kokanee spawning survey at New Melones in the next few months, which would be more fun than creel census.
