I don't think you would have that problem because the pipe is pushing mostly water out not air. The issue with the giant air bubbles is that when the burst they leave a hole in the water. The boat then sinks in this hole and then the water rushes in to fill the hole swamping the boat.

If you saw the mythbusters episode where they debunked the "sinking ships will pull you down with them" myth you will see this in action. The boat displaces the water pushing it up and people/objects above it just get pushed out of the way.
