I have a love-hate relationship with Quinoa.  The grain itself tastes pretty good, has a nice texture, and is lower in simple carbs than most grains.

However, Quinoa is a gateway grain to evangelical vagitarianism.

We had to go gluten-free at La Casa NiksYak, and Quinoa became a staple here, among other wheat substitutes. It was an easy transition. We felt better very soon after starting this. Brown rice is still a small part of our regimen; does not contain gluten. There are some acceptable gluten free pastas made from Quinoa, though they will not be as satisfying to me as the semolina-based pastas we used to buy or make at home. Life is full of compromises.  BTW: we have both lost weight with the change in eating habits. Highly recommend Quinoa.

After personal studies in the matter, I find your theory completely false.  Quinoa only brings out those qualities in people that were born that way.

Pork and Chicken Adobo with Quinoa?  Oh yuk.

Well, the thread is from september 2008... and Mooch hasn't posted in it since... so I'm guessing he's seen the folly of his ways and returned to his Asian roots.   :smt005

But... still feel free to bump him off the buffet list and I'll show up with my bowl.    :smt003

Believe it or not, but I'm not eating as much rice / quinoa anymore. I blame the meds. So now, I'm all about juicing and ensure - mostly a liquid diet. I'll have a small piece of rare steak and some asparagus on the side every other week. NO MORE RICE for me. Life style change - not by choice  :smt011

I was 250 pounds of man-meat last Thanksgiving.....I'm now 225 pounds of sexy. It's the lightest I've been in loooong time.

back in 2008 I was going to beat you with lumpia for even thinking of a rice substitute. Now my doc beat me with a carrot and I am mostly off of rice too.  Keep juicing Mooch

Rice substitute?  If you were within arms reach I would beat you with lumpia!  :smt075 Your faithful dog cannot be replaced by a squirrel.  Your fishing rod cannot be replaced by a shovel handle.  Big Sur cannot be replaced by Crapitola.  Rice cannot be substituted with Quinoa. :smt003

My thoughts exactly!

I find that particularly funny being right under:

I use it for filler in some home made sausages.  I used to use brown rice but I pretty much use only quinoa now.  Smoked quinoa abalone sausages at GS6 a'comin.

This sounds good!
