Try to buy at least a few things from the shops that support NCKA, Headwaters, fisherman's warehouse, ETC.
who knows you may win a kayak or some prize from them by just participating in the fun.
get a VHF floating radio also check REI clearance for deals.
I am also kind of new to kayak fishing but now I am gear up and ready to get them.

Haha ya last sunday i think. I got a job where i do alot of waiting on chemical adjustments this helps burn time

try and attend a big hook up. You will see 50 yaks all pimped out. Lots to look at and take in. And you will meet some of the coolest people.
