I don't know if you will need a drift chute but a bucket seems like it would fill with water and sink.
You would have to be drifting pretty fast to get that thing horizontal.

I did a drive by today and the water was pretty nice. It was windy and there was a good chop to the water.  The water had a some brown to it in some areas but not much.  I think we will be alright sunday.

it will work. if it sinks, you have no drift. great. if you have drift, it will work.

a 2" hole in the bottom of a 5 gallon would be good.   half gallon is a little small.

Thanks J.  I never thought about using a bucket.  I think the hole on the bottom is the key.

I may see you all out there with the brother-in-law in tow. He's up here to try his hand at NorCal fishing for a few days (from SD).  His plane doesn't get in until 8, but the plan is to go straight to the launch.
Bill- i PM'd you more detail on the trolling rig...camera is on the blink so no pics.

if you could post the poop shoot GPS coords would be appreciated- i'll plug into the Matrix...

The conditions are looking cold, but calm.

Wind forecast from iwindsurf is looking lovely.

I will try to make bait at 6:15 lagoon side of the tubes.  This can be an easy place to get bait and save time in the water looking for it. Anyone interested call.  8888455

good news! didn't mean to undercut you jason. a real chute is the best, just saying in a pinch,
other things would let you go fishing.  In the last three weeks I have seen three squirrels fall
out of trees, go thump on a parked car, grassy lawn and hardpacked dirt. One fell out of a palm
about 100 feet tall (loreto st in old mtn view). The squirrels didn't have parachutes, but they
threw out everything they had, arms, legs, big bushy tail. Each one ran off after the impact.
So I figured if troy was being blown away and he tossed out a 5 gallon bucket, he'd do about
as well as the squirrels.  :smt002

hope to see you guys tomorrow.

Go to your local army surplus store. Ask them for used or new cargo parashutes. A 16' or less dia. will be key for a kayak. They run less than 20 bucks.

I think they have a 8' dia. one which may work well for a kayak. I think 16' is a lil too big.
