Ok, wife and i may be moving to San Luis Obispo.  Is this a good thing from a fishing (or even hunting) standpoint?
How are these areas to Kayak Fish?
They look very nice on the map.
Andy advise, where to go, who to meet would be appreciated.

From a fishing standpoint, Yes it's gotta be better than Dixon. Norcal fish with Socal weather. Drive up the coast to Big Sur or down the coast to Malibu, and you're set.

There is GREAT fishing in that area. Halibut in morro bay harbor, port san Luis, Avila, and cayucos. Rockfish and lings at Shell Beach, cayucos, and anywhere north of there. Bass, trout, and panfish at any of the several local lakes. I've had countless 50 fish + days catching spotted bass at lake nacimiento (45 min from SLO).

All those spots are within twenty or thirty mins of SLO.

If you can afford it, move there. You'll be stoked.

Hey man whats going on! Check out http://centralcoastkayakfishing.com/cckf/index.php I'm out in Los Osos and I fish the bay about every day. Plenty of good fishing in the area, give me a shout some time and we can go out.

I'm working on getting my bow skills up to do some wild boar hunting as well if you're in to that.

Lots of nice lakes for stripers, bass, crappie and what not in the area. Lots of good ocean spots as mentioned.  You'll probably want to fish Cambria at Leftingwell landing.  It's an easy launch and tons of fish.  I can't find any pics now but lots of Cabs, Lings, Reds, and Halibut.  Hope you guys land the jobs.  It's a two and half hour drive for me but well worth it.

Thanks guys, this is looking more and more like reality as the weeks go by.
If anyone knows of a place for rent near SLO (maybe near the atascadaro or San Margarita area) we are most likely looking for  a place near Sept.   I am not living in town, somewhere out of the mess would be nice.
Thanks

Great area sad that I had to leave it lived in Atown for awhile its nice little town but Hot in the summer...

Id look for something in Morro Bay if you want out of SLO city it self. Short drive to SLO and not a bad drive to the lakes either. Plenty of ocean fishing with some great fishing for Hali and other species if you put the time and effort into it...

Check out this tackle / supply store in Santa Maria if you get the chance.    " Been There Caught That"  it's on Betteravia road.

They'll have lots of good info on where to fish and what to use.  Custom rods, great prices.   Some kayaks and related gear as well.

Good luck with the new job.

It's now official... We are moving over the next two weeks to SLO/Santa Margarita.
10 acres next to BLM land and 25 minutes to the ocean.  Sharks and Rays are my first target, someone will have to teach me about these salt water fish.  Lings and Cod, White Sea bass, Halibut, etc...   when are these things in season.

Congrats!  My wife and I are going to be moving there as well.  I have my work transfer in and am just waiting for my number to come up.  It will probably be int he next year or so.  I have been all over the Central Kayak site checking it out.  Good fishing down there, and good diving!  Lobster season is in full swing too.  I think Dungeness crabs are out deep, but rock crabs are abundant there.  An hour drive to the south to Goletta/Capenteria will put you into Lobster country.  I look forward to some reports!  We will have to hook up when I finally get down that way.

Matt
