Thanks for the info guys. I choose to make changes. I eat pretty good, but now I know I have to eat better.

Taking my family to the beach here soon, gonna run from New Brighton to the Cement Ship and back. I know its not too far pf a run, but at a brisk pace its a great start  Yesterday walked almost there and back with my 3year old. Gonna get the heart rate up everyday.

Porky,

I know some very nice mellow runs of varying length right around your place.

You say the word brother and we'll get on it.

You know what else gets the heart rate up...kayaking and divng.

Also, whole fresh rockfish wrapped in aluminum foil and cooked on the bbq is super healthy and tasty.

Hang in there buddy.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Thanks for your input, so your 100-102 is your norm now?

That's my fasting test numbers. I have it checked every 6 months.  My Dr hasn't suggested daily tests.

Lots of good advise has been shared. You can beat it!

Al

I went from pre, to full blown, back to pre, down to stud, back to pre, to full blown, to pre again.  :smt003

the patterns I have noticed over the years relative to diabetes are as follows.  Daily exercise is more important than the intensity.  Walking for an hour a day, is better than ass kicking cardio 4 times a week.  Don't get me wrong cardio is important but consistency is critical.

Relative to what sets your blood sugar off, a snickers bar affect me less than a bowl of Japanese white rice.  The snickers has fat, some nuts so slows the sugar part into my blood stream.  White rice is like a mainline drip to me.  so you have to look at food a bit differently.  Sweets have to become a special occasion thing. Anything "white" is going to spike your sugar level.  Switching from white to brown helps.  So if your rice of choice is white, make it brown.  White bread for whole wheat.  Add lots of nuts and veggies.  Be careful with fruit and especially fruit juice.  Orange juice is used as a quick sugar rush to someone in low blood sugar.

Finally stress is a big part of it.  Have to learn to relax.  Chi Gong, Tai chi, meditation, killing fish  :smt003 all can be useful.  I also found that peaceful music on my walk helps.  Save the rock for the cardio.

If you need drugs for a while, don't freak out.  I was on them in the beginning and was able to get off them.  Of course I then back slid and had to go back on them.  No insulin yet, and hope to avoid it.

if you have any questions, let me know.  My dad had it and did not care for it well.  He still lived to be 80 but it wasnt pretty.  No need to panic, but you do want to deal with it.

pretty sure 70 is the number they use for a low blood sugar event.  But it is relative.  When my sugars are running high, I get all the symptoms of low blood sugar below 100.

for the fasting test its supposed to be between 70-99 for normal, 100-126 for pre, 127 up for full blown
