We were just out to the first point in front of pool / gym. We walked the beach and then swam out with the boogie boards.
By the way the parking is still jacked due to the construction.

Swell's going to be big, too. 8-10 feet, I think. At least it oughta push that shark out deeper... in theory. Makes me wonder what effect the swell has on GWS hunting behavior.

I've seen a good sized shark there before in the north cove... but it wasn't a GWS.

Bit curious, but always left after one pass.

I did a research thesis on GWS back in 1997 and a noted part of it was that big whites do indeed hunt in kelp, just not as often as open water.

Been in the water for a while now surfing, scuba, snorkeling and have had plenty of seals, dolphins, and posessed pieces of kelp scare the shit out of me. This time it was the real deal. Surprisingly this time only a couple of things went through my mind.
1 that's a big shark couldn't be a Gws.
2 why am I so far from my friend and board.
3 animals can sense fear so if I pretend to not be afraid I should be fine.
4 why did I get a red float line (yes I know they smell blood, not see red).

My wife's rethinking the comment she made the other week. " I hope a big old shark eats you while you are shooting poor defenseless fish in their own home".
Jokes on her because I have no life insurance!
Glad to be on dry land and have both Joe and I safe and sound.

seems pretty common for people to see sharks more frequently in the fall months than any other time of the year. seals typically give birth around july as far as i have read and there happens to be a gathering of GWS at the farallones from what the news said. is it a yearly migration of GWS?

Yep. Basically each spring they swim off to Hawaii or the "cafe' in the open Pacific, following tuna or sea lions, etc. and each fall they make their way back here.
