I have to say all the Gary Loomis rods I have owed have done remarkable, the best performers I have had. And as for the cost the Calstar, Seeker are not to different then the Loomis. The worst of the bunch in my case has been the Lamiglas I have broken 3 Lamiglas on Salmon but never broke a Loomis HSR rod. No I have not used Calstar or the Seeker but I have handled them and I hear good reports about them. But to say Loomis is a complete waste of money for what ever type of fish you are fishing for I have to disagree. Loomis is still made in the good old USA just now owed by Shimano.

Don't know about the conventional rods but I feel as long as Steve Rajeff is the Chief Designer, fly rods at least will be made the USA. Steve's influence and name recognition is probably the only reason they still make fly rods after Shimano bought them. I'm sure it is not a big money maker compared to conventional gear. G.loomis makes some of my favorite spey rods, kudos to Shimano for not abandoning fly rods completely.

Check out the G loomis pro blue models.  I have two and really love them.  If you keep your eye out for sales sometimes sports chalet or a similar companies have sales on them.   Got the same reel as you at forty percent off at sports chalet.
