Yea, OK I went back to page 3 and saw it. I guess if I have to mount it in the same location I will. You make a good point. I'd rather be prepared.

Last Minute mods to my Revo; had to make some upgrades to tackle the American River.

Installed a Scotty Anchor Bracket; got some plastic scrap from TAPs Plastics and fabricated an adapter piece to attached the surface mount base plate.

Installed 3 rope guides along the path of the line, installed a pulley at the front of the cockpit to make it easier to pull in the line and installed an self adjusting kleat to secure the line; Hobie even made a storage place for the excess rope.

Here are some images of the completed system:

Very interesting setup and may work well in very slow water, but if you ever end up anchoring in the faster stuff or even get your anchor stuck it may turn into a big disaster.  You may want to look into fabricating a design similar to Abdiver's drift anchor setup where the anchor line runs directly behind versus to the side.

I actually have a QRAS on the Revo, but need something easier when dropping in/out of holes on the AR.

Here's a nice one otobepelagic built for a Hobie a while back. This is what striper_slayer was referencing with it straight out the back especially in fast water drifts because of the current. Also you might want to check out BabyManben's next time he's in Sac fishing the American with us. Let us know how your set up works out on the next trip.

I thought about fabricating something similar, but I want to be able to retact the rudder with the anchor mount still attached. When I drafted up a bracket on paper to achieve this, it was TOO massive.

I weighed the cons of placing the anchor mount off center, but hoped that with the rudder up and the flat bottom design of the Hobie, it would not create excessive drag in the current or side-to-side drifting..... that's my hope! :smt003

We'll find out how it performs this weekend.

Lots of great set-ups but here is one we built for a Hobie which still allows full function of the rudder system...

Kill to birds with one stone a drift anchor and the functioning rudder.

i cleaned mine up a little, and am gonna give it another shot soon. I dont know how well it will work but im sure as hell gonna find out.  i also boosted my anchor to 8lbs and increased my anchor line to 50ft.

by the way, if your fins are deployed and you're in quick water, its annoying as heck. make sure to push them all the way up and bungee them in place.  i also much prefer to have my rudder up while on anchor.

but if you're fishing howe near the pump, you won't need to worry about any of that. just make sure you have a way to dump the anchor just in case.  what i did was i attached 10ft of floating rope to the end of my anchor line, theoretically if i dump my anchor the floating rope should still float and i can chase it down.

revos drag, i can tell you mine drags like a ***** and the fins definitely hurt stability. with rudder up its better, but the fins deployed really kick me around sometimes. next time i hit the AR i'm going to just plug the well and go without the fins.
