Can anyone confirm that squid has moved in the Bay? I heard that they were around but not in numbers like last year...yet... Besides being good bait for WSB they are pretty fun to catch and eat as well.

Well it's not Monterey  but the salmon we caught yesterday below Tomales were stuffed with 2 1/2 inch squid. I need to research to see if it is legal to use a throw net in big blue...something tells me it's not.

28.80. DIP NETS AND HAWAIIAN TyPE THROW NETS.
Dip nets of any size and baited hoop nets not greater than 36 inches in diameter may be used to
take herring, Pacific staghorn sculpin, shiner surfperch, surf smelt, topsmelt, anchovies, shrimp
and squid. Hawaiian type throw nets may be used north of Point Conception to take such species.

saw a bunch of squid boats off lovers point on tuesday but they seems to be anchored and not moving around

weird thing about this reg is the absence of sardines and jack smelt in that list.

It's either 10 days too late or a few weeks too early. No lightboats or seiners in the area for the last 5-6 days. Heard they motored north of SC?

yes you're allowed to use it in the salt, but make sure that you carry a landing net with at least an 18" diameter with you when you're fishing clear lake in the pouring rain  :smt002
