Going to install and stick the transducer inside the hull this afternoon using cut foam and silicone.

I bought this silicone from Home Depot yesterday and thought it should work... but to be on safe side, I'd be appreciated if you guys can give me your opinion of whether or not this silicone be a good adhesive to stick foam, transducer, and inside the hull yak together?

Here is the link of silicone product I purchased:

Thanks in advance,

Not sure if that will work, others who are more in the know will be able to answer your question.  What I do know is that Marine Goop will work. :smt003

What year is your P13?  Does it not have the recessed area for a scupper transducer?

Dilbeck,

Thanks for quick response!  I believe my yak is a 2008 model, an older model w/o sonar shield and scupper transducer.

I plan to run the the wires through the front hatch to inside the hull, cut the foam to fit the transducer.  Stick the foam on the bottom of the inside-hull then carefully apply adhesive between transducer and the hull with cut foam as support.

This video is kind what I am aiming to copy except that I won't be using electric putty:

Thank Golfish, nice thread to reference to!  I guess I am gonna switch to goop for a firm glue to the yak.

Or perhaps I am gonna use goop to stick the cut foam down first, silicone to stick transducer to the hull, then use excessive goop to fill the gap between foam and the transducer.  I'll post the after picture tonight.

Good luck, I think getting it to seal/stick with no air pockets or bubbles is the key to best performance.

Hermes,

Yeah, I'm not an OK expert so I'm not sure when they started with the molded scupper transducer but I thought that year might have it.  My bad.

Most people do either one or the other.  They usually don't use the foam/puck AND adhere the transducer.  Golfish is correct, the most important thing is to make sure that when sticking the transducer down you don't have ANY bubbles, otherwise it will interfere with the signal.

Thank you all for chipping your opinions and experiences.  I've installed the transducer with goop and air cured it for 24 hr.  It is now firmly attached inside of hull.  Turned on the FF with 8 AA batteries and the screen looks fine.  Hopefully, I will get some time by the end of Aug to test it out on the water!

Lesson learned: Try not to sqeeze too much goop on the area where transducer is going to sit.  I actually found it easier to use starbucks coffee stirrer to lightly spread thin layer of goop on the transducer.
