They are different in price for sure  :smt003  Depend on the applications, some applications you can use either, but if I want to glue the FF's sensor to the bottom of your tak, then I'll go with the marine goop.

They are not the same at all, the goop dries and shrinks and is much tougher and stickier than silicone which cures and doesn't shrink.  I've used both for gluing down transducers, silicone comes off way too easy. for sealing something that is screwed down or into the hull silicone is good, for gluing to the hull, use goop or a caulking product called lexel or go to Tap Plastics they have a wide variety of glues and epoxys that work on plastics.

I would be using it to seal around flush rod holders and around the base of my scotty rod holder. Thanks for the input.

Lexel, if used, will if it gets hot, like kayak is sitting in sun, get soft.  I used to store my OB up against my ceiling, up sided down and summer of 07? was real hot and when I lowered the yak for Loch Lochomd opener I discovered my transducer had fallen (stretched) away from the hull.  The lexel had softened and the transducer pulled away from the hull.  It was suspended about 3" up when the hull was righted!
I tossed the lexel after that.

I have always used plumbers goop with no problems at all. There are technical differences between the different products but not enough to make a difference for what you require.

Thanks for the info, good to know.

I actually called them to find out the difference in the Marine vs Plumbers Goop.  They said its exactly the same, but Plumbers formula doesn't have UV resistance.  Since I've only gooped inside the hull, not a problem to me!

I don't think the government is interested in sending a kayak to the moon. I do believe they have a program to raise my taxes to pay off someone elses kayak.

Pool a little bit of each and let it dry, you'll see that Goop hardens more like epoxy--somewhat stiff, grips as a glue/adhesive very well, and shows little deformation in tension as well as compression (but more than epoxy does)--which also means things that flex under strain or thermal expansion and contraction of the kayak (like those small threaded Scotty mount on a deck) might break loose and leak with Goop when used as a sealant. Silicone stays a bit more flexible but doesn't hold as well as a glue.

My personal conclusions: Goop for a transducer adhesive and silicone as a water sealant around things that might flex from the boat a bit. But people have been using them interchangeably with only the transducer mount issue showing a cause for concern regarding silicone.

i agree with marmot - i use goop to seal things to the hull and aquarium silicone to waterproof things like small holes.

I tried the Lexel when I first mounted my transducer and had a similar problem.  The Lexel and transducer pulled away from my yak hull during the time my yak was stored over the winter, rendering the FF inoperable.  I have since switched to the removable ducer mount using the piece of pool noodle with a cut out for the ducer, gooped to the hull, and the ducer and a small amount of water in the cut out.

PM Sean  aka SBD. There is a particular goop he says works great on yak plastic. I forget what it's called.
