I agree with most of the comments here regarding Coyotes. There is a fairly recent Nova television program on dogs (Dogs Decoded - you can find it on Netflix streaming) that stated that Wolves, Coyotes, and Dogs have very similar DNA and they can interbreed easily. It further said that eastern Coyotes have 25% dog DNA. Nature evolved most wild plants and animals in the present day before man 'citified' things  as extensively as he has in the last 100 years and most haven't had time to adapt much. Though some adapt faster than others. I've never felt I missed Grizzlies and wished them back when camping the Sierra though. If you fly fish the Upper Owens River (just off Benton Crossing Road North of Lake Crowley) towards dusk, you'll get serenaded by several groups of Coyotes from the neighboring pasture's hills. Kinds of cool and I've always enjoyed hearing them. Great Browns in there but it's C&R FYI. I love fishing there.

as a kid i was awoken from a nights rest due to a disgusting rotten smell , i woke up and heard little crunching sounds outside my window , you know leaves crunching made by footsteps , i poked my head out the window and found a 3 legged possum making its way next to my window and its mouth was open wide showing me its nasty teeth and it smelled like shi...scarred for life

I had a possum waddle up to me while I was soaking in the hot tub around 1am.  the tub is on my lower deck and the possum was on the upper deck, so he was head level with me, about 3 feet away from my face.

i felt naked and defenseless.  Actually i WAS naked and defenseless.  So, I grabbed my towel, wetted it and hit him with the locker room snap a couple times before he would back off.  then i grabbed the deck broom which convinced him to leave.

don't like 'em.  They look like giant alien rats as far as i'm concerned.

I find it interesting that to many American Indians the coyote is sacred...  basically God.  Not the Grizzly, or the wolf, or the eagle...  they chose coyote, (or coyote chose them).
